The development goal of TMC is to simulate the intersection driving with many accidents considering the accidents occurrence environment in Japan. Therefore, the generation of longitudinal and lateral acceleration of 0.3 G, which covers from 80% to 90% of normal driving, was targeted.

And, NADS of the Iowa Univ. was made to be a reference in order to realize this development goal. NADS is a 6 axis + 2 axis rail system, and the translational distance is 20 m.

In order to realize 0.3 G in TMC, the specification of the machine part was expanded from that of NADS as follows. First, the translation distance was extended from 20 m to 35 m. In addition, in order to improve image flickering and yaw response characteristics during turning, a turn table rotating by 330 degrees of soil was added to the dome, and in order to compensate for the lack of speed sense at low speed, the stroke of 4 vehicle body vibrators supporting the turn table was enlarged by 50 mm.

NADS was the world's highest performance DS at that time, so it can be said that TMC aimed at the development of the world's highest performance DS.
