The image equipment which projects the driving scene in the dome is composed of a dome screen, projectors, image simulation computers, an experiment scenario computer and image database, etc.. The dome screen has a height of 4.5 m and an inside diameter of 7.0 m, and the inside is a spherical screen, and the traveling scene is projected by 8 projectors fixed from the ceiling in the visual field of upper 23 °, lower 20 °, and whole circumference 360 °. The center of the spherical screen is set at the driver's eye point, 1.27 m above the floor.

The cockpit in the dome was designed at 32 Hz in the vertical natural frequency, because the vibration was applied to 2.5 Hz by the vibrator, and there was a possibility of the image blur by the vibration. This dome adopted carbon aluminum honeycomb sandwich panel of light weight and high rigidity used as structural material of aircraft, and its rigidity was raised by structural design by FEM analysis. Increasing the rigidity of the dome is also effective for improving the responsiveness of the vehicle motion simulator.

With the aim of being able to distinguish whether a vehicle at 100 m ahead is a truck or a passenger car, the image of the screen is drawn by 8 UXGA (1600 x 1200) liquid crystal projectors at 60 Hz. The synthesis of CG is the drawing using image simulation computer of 4 per projector and total of 32. Then, in order to reproduce driver driving behavior leading to an accident at the intersection in the urban area, Gotemba in Japan urban area where DS is installed was faithfully modeled by computer graphics. A road in the range of 2 × 3 kmm including the Gotemba Station area was reproduced using 480,000 polygons, and the total road extension distance was 64 km.
